A chroma key green screen, also known as a "green screen" or "blue screen," is a special type of background used in video production and photography. It is a large, seamless background that is typically made of a green or blue fabric or paint. The color of the background is chosen because it is very different from most skin tones, hair colors, and clothing, making it easy to separate the subject from the background using chroma key compositing software.

During the filming or photography, the subject is positioned in front of the green screen and the background is recorded separately. Then, using chroma key compositing software, the green or blue background is removed, and replaced with a virtual background, or other video footage, creating the illusion that the subject is in a different location. Chroma key green screen technology is widely used in film and television, news broadcast, weather forecast, virtual events and live streaming among others.
